Optimising the Network – a HUGE source of noise

Most of our systems are plugged into the home network these days. Our streamers and servers are attached to the network to be controlled from our Ipads and if we are not playing files directly from a network attached hard drive, we are using streaming services like Tidal and Qobuz, pulling music from the deep recesses of the web. The problem is the home network is a large and very complex source of noise. There are many noise factors with USB and ethernet cables, phase noise from consumer grade network clocks, noise from cheap router/dataswitch power supplies and even [...]

NAIM TO VITUS – IN 2020

It has been almost 5 years since I wrote my original Naim to Vitus article and 7 years since I started this whole paradigm. It feels like a lifetime ago, so much has happened since. In that time we have moved probably over 100 Naim owners out of their green boxes and into Danish Highend. It is such a well-trodden and proven pathway now and it happens here every single month. I pioneered this philosophy and methodology and evangelised its success and ease far and wide, not just in the UK but across Europe and even in the US [...]

Life after the Linn LP12 SE ?

Like my original Naim to Vitus writings, the LP12SE to Brinkmann Bardo upgrade path has become so commonplace here at Lotus that I felt it was finally time to sit down and explain it all in detail. Many LP12 owners with the Keel and Radikal have been stuck at an upgrade dead end for some years now. Whilst having fun with small additions like the various third party top plates, counterweights and bearing modifications does bring about additional worthy improvements within the performance sphere of the Linn, the truth is that moving into the very cheapest deck we sell here [...]

SPEAKERS FIRST … NOT SOURCE !

I had an illuminating conversation with a customer of mine the other day. So key was it's message that I thought it might be a good idea to write an article around it. This particular customer of mine has a great system with me. We moved him into Vitus amplification around 3 years ago and then soon after that we upgraded his Notts Analogue deck to a Brinkmann Balance with Transfiguration Proteus moving coil. An Allnic phonostage and some TelluriumQ wires complete the picture as far as Lotus is concerned. At the business end though, he has left his [...]

The LINN LP12 – into the Highend league

The Linn Sondek LP12 has been there all of our adult lives. A hugely lovable legend in its own right it is also a deck that has evolved steadily through the decades. The last time I personally owned one was way back in 1991 when it was looked after by Chris Thomas from Audio Venue in Crystal Palace. Back in those days he (along with Derek Jenkins) was the very best person in the country at setting one up. Since then of course through the earlier days of Lotus Hifi I have literally sold hundreds of them secondhand, possibly [...]

The linn/naim to VITUS FAQ

Written in March 2017. Prices and model names might be out of date.   In over 3 years of retailing Vitus Audio I have moved many Naim Audio owners over to the Danish brand as a complete system upgrade. Out of about 5 or 6 dozen Naim to Vitus customers over the years, pretty much all of them still have the Vitus we sold them and it continues to deliver long term fuss-free listening pleasure. This then is now a very well trodden path and one that has produced many deeply satisfied customers who came to Lotus looking for an [...]

LOTUS SUGGESTED SYSTEMS

N.B. This article from 2017 is very much outdated now, in terms of prices, products and current technology. Please see the updated 2023 version. I thought it might be useful and fun to list a few recommended systems here at Lotus and some of our most popular combiations with our customers. Save the very last these are all arrangements that we have sold or tested and they all work really well together in a balanced and cohesive fashion. There is obviously a huge price difference between first and last but the point is these all make stunning music and [...]

THE STARS OF 2016

With another year flown by I thought it might be interesting to look back at the Lotus Stars of 2016. The Lotus product portfolio is already finely handpicked (we don't automatically list every single product that our brands manufacture) so almost every item you see on this website comes highly recommended and will sell at some point or other. There are of course products that sell in far greater numbers though. It might be because they are one in million items, amazingly competitive in their own marketplace or just reflective of new trends and habits. Let's check over the sales [...]

MOVING FROM NAIM TO VITUS

Written in August 2015. Prices and model names might be out of date. Like many people I started my Hifi journey with Naim back in the late 1980's. A 62/140 which later saw the addition of a hicap, a 250 and then a move to SBL's and a CDi. Its my belief that everyone should try a Naim system at some point. The chaps from Salisbury have a very singular approach, a very unique house sound and whatever finer points devotees and detractors may argue over, one thing is for sure and that's the Naim sound involves you, gets [...]
