MINI W70 H47

Weighing in at over 3kg each, the W70-H47 – the bigger brother of the W70-H33 – offers a greater height clearance of 47mm for components where it’s needed. Height clearance is not the only reason for choosing this model if your budget will stretch to it.

It out performs the W70-H33 due to the increased volume of the tungsten alloy present.

Tungsten The Natural Vibration Absorber

Tungsten is a rare and dense metal that has long been used to remove vibrations in a wide variety of applications from the handles of rivet guns to aircraft wings. It is also non-magnetic in nature which mean it won’t interfere with your sensitive electonics. This made tungsten a natural choice for our range of vibration isolarion feet. It is however, an expensive material to purchase and its density complicates machining, further increasing costs. We trialed a number of tungsten alloys before finding the one that produced the most pleasing acoustic results. Premium products, deserve premium materials, for premium results.

Particle Dampening

Whilst the use of tungsten in our range of products was evolutionary, our use of tungsten powder in the central chamber is revolutionary within the audio industry. Leveraging a principle known as particle dampening, our choice of tungsten powder is carefully mixed, calibrated then blind tested.

Wikipedia describes the particle dampening phenomenon as: “The principle behind particle damping is the removal of vibratory energy through losses that occur during impact of granular particles which move freely within the boundaries of a cavity attached to a primary system.In practice, particle dampers are highly nonlinear dampers. Energy dissipation or damping is derived from a combination of loss mechanisms, including friction and momentum exchange.”

Frequencies Matter

Our patented design leverages a phenomenon called particle dampening. Unlike other approaches it’s effective over a broad range of frequencies transferring vibration energy into heat through friction and collision between particles. The central stainless steel chamber is filled with a carefully calibrated grade of tungsten powder, selected for the best performance and a wide variety of music tastes.

Heat Matters

The effects of particle dampening increases as your Tungsten Grooves vibration isolation feet warm up, typically 5 to 10 minutes. Tungsten itself becomes a better conductor of vibration and the powder in the central chamber expands then finds its natural level.

Isolated Layers

We go to great lengths to absorb and decouple the transmission of vibration between layers. This is why we avoid directly coupling with the bottom tungsten plate and the central chamber, instead choosing to isolate it with seven high grade silicon bearings. Even the bolt holding it all together is chosen for it material and isolated further with a high grade composite washer. Our platforms are beautifully crafted and hand finished to perfection. When you hold one in your hand you will be surprised by its weight and tactile nature, so much so you wont want to put it down.

Safety First, Last, Always!

Whichever configuration you choose, please make sure your equipment is secure and stable. If you apply pressure to the top in any location is should not tip, rock or slide. Where you are placing absorption feet under heavy pieced of equipment make sure you have relevant help and or lifting equipment to aid the placement of absorption feet safely. Please consult your manufacturers documentation about lifting and transporting equipment.

Always be sure to be on level ground and your equipment shelf or stand is level when loading or unloading your equipment. It greatly reduces the risk of rollovers or sliding. If you are moving equipment, make sure people are clear and use a spotter to guide you. Always be sure your component rack or shelf is rated correctly for the weight of your component.

Setup

Vibration absorption feet should be in direct contact with the equipment chassis. Do not place the absorption feet under existing feet or spikes. Start by placing the feet approximately 5 cm in from the corners where they can be placed in direct contact with the chassis. Make sure there are no screw heads or nuts obstructing the feet. Where counter sunk screws are flat with the chassis and do not protrude from the chassis the absorption feet can be placed below them. Sticky paper or plastic labels between the absorption feet and chassis will impair performance so avoid these or remove them and any adhesive left behind. Make sure your component is resting evenly on all feet. Heavy cables may lift your equipment slightly which will impair their performance. Make sure these cables are supported properly.

Placement

As every piece of equipment is different, a little trial and error will be required to find the best placement of our vibration absorption feet. Generally depending on the size of the component between 2 and 6 feet will be required. Tests have shown that tungsten will effect the electronics in positive ways, good places to consider are beneath:

  • Transformers;
  • CD transports;
  • AC inlet;
  • Analogue or digital in / outputs;
  • D to A converters;
  • Computer processors, CPUs;
  • USB or Ethernet cards / chips.

On any particular setup you may discover additional absorption feet works very well under a CD Transport or power supply for example. With larger pieces of equipment you have the advantage of being able to place more feet under critical electronic components.

Isolation feet, pods or stands sit under your speakers or HiFi component with the aim of reducing or dissipating vibration. Vibration comes from everywhere, even our planet resonates at 7.83 Hz. The phenonium is know as Schumann Resonance. One of the more obvious sources of vibration is directly from speakers. The vibration from speakers has a cross over effect, sound reflect back into the speaker cabinets causes a feed back loop and distortion

When you turn a sound system up, you can physically feel the bass from your HiFi. This not only affects speakers but the case of equipment as well. Good isolation products contribute to a good sound from your HiFi improving clarity, definition and sound stage.

How do Isolation Feet Work

  1. Firstly Isolation devices block vibration from the ground up.
  2. Stabalise and support a cabinet or case. A lot of cases are made from thin aluminium or steel a foot with a large surface area will help to stiffen the cabinets structure and reduce vibration.
  3. Stop the transmission of vibration. The material a foot is made of is crucial in preventing vibration moving between surfaces. Different material may alter the frequency of the vibration instead of absorbing it.
  4. Absorb vibration. If there is nothing to absorb vibration is will travel through an object.
